Steel strapping

There are two kinds of steel strapping, Apex Plus and Magnus. Apex Plus is cold rolled and medium carbon steel strapping that can yield higher break strength even at a thinner gauge than regular duty steel strapping. Apex Plus is also a replacement for light and medium duty applications in order to save money on shipping costs.

Magnus on the other hand is cold rolled and heat treated. Being a medium carbon steel strapping it provides high tensile strength and acts as a great shock absorber for heavy duty applications.  Apex Plus and Magnus are very popular.

Advantages of Steel Strapping

  • Very strong
  • Large and heavy products can be packaged only with steel strapping
  • Available in various widths and lengths

The major benefit of using steel is that it is very strong. However, many feel it is not worth it, as workers have to be trained to handle steel strapping as there is a risk of injury while using it. The edges are sharp and workers are prone to injury if they do not use the strapping the right way.

Another major worry for packaging companies is that steel rusts if exposed to harsh weather conditions. Not only do they rust, they also end up damaging the product that is packaged. Steel strapping also has the tendency to become loose after a while when the product shifts weight during transit. Bricks are the products that can be safely packed with steel strapping as they do not get damaged. Most of the other goods stand a risk of damage.
